Description

Dog Island is a small, totally uninhabited island on the edge of the East Lamma Channel just 500m off Lamma Island
The trip is unique. You depart from the shelter of Sok Kwu Wan (Big Net Bay) on the relatively unpopulated Lamma Island and paddle along the coast for 3 kms until you stop at Dog Island, a completely uninhabited island on the edge of the busiest shipping channel in Hong Kong (the East Lamma Channel).

On arrival at 9:05am at the Sok Kwu Wan ferry pier on Lamma Island you will be met by your sea kayak guide. From here you will do a short (15 minute) hike around the bay to our sea kayak base at Lo So Shing Village Beach. After getting changed into your sea kayaking gear (shorts, t shirt, hat, wet shoes, swimming costume) you will begin a 10 minute instruction on how to control your kayak. We use double sit on top kayaks because they are stable and easy to paddle.
Our journey takes us up the northen coastline of Sok kwu Wan through the ancient fishing village and floating fish farms. We soon enter the East Lamma Channel for an impressive and unique view of Hong Kong island.
We can also see the huge container ships that travel the channel everyday - t is Hong Kong's busiest shipping channel and fascinating to see.
Within 5oom we come to "Dog Island" named after the 2 lonely and friendly dogs that have lived in isolation on this island for at least a decade.
They love it when we come to visit (we always bring some food for them).
Here we have a rest from the kayaking and take the time to have a swim and some snacks. Its amazing that we are only 2 kms from Hong Kong Island with over 1 million people living on it, but herre there is no one.
Our return journey takes us around the island before heading back into Sok Kwu Wan and the short journey home.
The trip takes about 3 hours and is just 6 klms on the water.
